my·na·to

myna + tota — the two birds that talk back

Lives in the menu bar

Work with your voice,
not your keyboard.

Hold one key. Talk. The words land where your cursor is.

Free · macOS 13 or later · Apple silicon (M1 or later)

Mynato isn’t out yet. Leave your email and you’ll be the first to know — no other mail, ever.

The problem

The problem was never the words.

Dictation already gets them right. It falls apart the moment one is wrong, because fixing it means reaching for the keyboard.

See it work

Say it. Fix it. Never touch the keyboard.

01

Talk anywhere.

Any app. No window. The words arrive at your cursor.

Who it's for

For the days typing hurts.

This got built because someone's hands gave out. That's the whole story.

If a keyboard costs you a wrist or a tendon, you already know the Mac stopped taking you seriously years ago. The last professional dictation app for macOS died in 2018. People run Windows in a virtual machine to get it back.

And if your hands are fine and you just think faster than you type, same app.

For the tinkerers

There's a door in the back.

A small server on your own machine, so Shortcuts and scripts can ask Mynato to listen. A foot pedal. A nightly job. If that means nothing to you, ignore it.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does it need the internet?

Once, to download the speech model. Never again. Works the same on a plane as at your desk.

Why does it need Accessibility permission?

It's the macOS permission that lets an app type into other apps, the same one Raycast and TextExpander ask for. There's no other way to reach your cursor.

What happens to the recording?

Written to a scratch file, transcribed, deleted. It never leaves your Mac. There's nowhere for it to go.

macOS says it can't check the app.

That shows up for any app not put through Apple's paid notarisation programme. Mynato hasn't been yet. It's a solo project and it's next on the list.

To go ahead: System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway. Once, ever.

Rather wait? Leave your email below and we'll tell you the day it's signed.

Will it work with Apple's new dictation?

Yes. Different jobs. Apple's turns speech into tidy text. Mynato is about working without a keyboard once the text is there.

Stop typing things you could have just said.
